[Xion wanted to go explore other worlds. She was alone- Everyone else had their own situations to take care of, and that was fine, wasn't it? She had her Gummiphone, so even if she was alone, everyone else was only a button press away. So she could explore freely, knowing that if she did end up in trouble, others would come for her... If she couldn't take care of it herself, first. She is strong, and proud of that, after all.
So when she points her Keyblade, creating a portal to another world, the same way Sora did, she doesn't hesitate before going through it. But unlike Sora, Xion wasn't thinking of anyone in particular when she opened that portal- Only thinking of peoples' hearts in general. And that's how it landed her in a bizarre subway. Not like Twilight Town's, no matter how creepy that one could be, because this one was worse. Rib-like structures supported fleshy-seeming walls, and strange beings lurked around in the shadows, hissing and whispering...
Or, in other words, deep in Mementos, any adventuring party of thieves might come across a girl handily beating up a rather formidable Shadow. It's completely one-sided, even, as she's thrashing it... with a giant key.
No, seriously. She just beat it up with a giant house key, and as it dissolves, she's staring suspiciously at the vanishing remains.]
There was no heart...?
[I'm sure this isn't worrying.]
