[Blythe isn't the only one who had done horrible things. Ash didn't think she had regrets, she had pushed the blame of her mistakes onto others. It was revenge for everything that had gone wrong in her life. ...Now she was just getting by on the far edge of the multiverse where the consequences of her actions couldn't find her at the moment.

She certainly doesn't have a clue whether she's the person Blythe is expecting or not, but cosmic constants like that weren't uncommon for her at this point. Every Gary had sacrificed himself to close the breach after all, except for the Gary where she had been from.

...And that wasn't even where her problems began.

She plays it naturally as possible but eventually she takes a seat down on the bench beside Blythe and gazes up at the screen.]

Kind of weird, huh? How people can make this sound like news while hundreds of other people are out there suffering.

[blythe is expecting any number of people, and anyone who sits down is someone she's been expecting. it's the way this kind of thing seems to go. everyone has something to say when a mogul dies, and if they have reason to suspect her then they have even more to say. still, blythe doesn't get those vibes from this new arrival, and will—for the moment—approach this as a normal conversation.]

Mm. Weird, yes. But the system is designed like this—haven't you noticed? We... they care more about the death of one man than the millions of deaths caused in his name. His technology, his industry, all in the name of stealing more money and prolonging his own legacy.

[as normal as it ever gets with blythe.]

The story will be the same no matter how many of them die. Until someone begins to wonder why.

[Ash felt her shoulders sag. It had been exactly like that, hadn't it? Everything back home was for, and because of one man. Through countless timelines it all lead back to what he was doing.

She gives a little huff.]

Noticed? I've lived it. It's- Complicated but that's the truth.

Doesn't matter how many people that person has killed- How many people he's hurt. At the end of the day he's the most important one around.

...I'm tired of it.

[there's not much acknowledgement from blythe to begin with. she sits serenely, knowing very well what this person means, what she's talking about. and then that last statement comes, and she smiles with her thin, cracked lips. there's no teeth, but she still seems primed to pounce, shoulders tense, neck prickling.]

Do you intend to do something about it? [there's no reason to give the entire game away. she keeps her tone level.] Men are only men. Their assets are not armor. They have names. Addresses.

[Ash looks to the ground and considers her answer. She had already striped Mooncake of his power, freed Invictus so he can spread his will across the multiverse. There wasn't much else that Gary, Quinn, or Avacato could do to stop it. ...She could kill them herself, but she thinks to how Little Cato turned away from her. She looks to the ground.]

...I have. I could see it through the end I guess. But that isn't going to give me back what I've lost.

They're already dead. They just don't know it yet.

[blythe nods slowly, but it only begins at "they're already dead". the rest of it is a curiosity she would like to handle with words, indelicate as she may be with them.]

There is never a way to return what has been lost. Time flows in one direction only. [she knows this well. she knows that she has thought about this enough that her Lady will not object to her speaking of it.] Do not regret what has gone. Mourn it as you choose, but leave it to its ultimate death. When you meet it on whatever you consider the other side, it may no longer recognize you, and you will have spent your life chasing something less than a mirage.
